I-joist

Manufacturing Term

An I-joist, also known as a solid-web joist, is an engineered wood product typically used in construction for floors and roofs. It consists of a core of oriented strand board or laminated veneer lumber (OSB or LVL), with a top and bottom fiber cement or OSB flange. The flanges are attached to the core through a specialized process that uses adhesives and mechanical fasteners, resulting in a strong and stable product with a predictable load-bearing capacity.

I-joists are commonly used in the manufacturing industry for their excellent strength-to-weight ratio and uniform dimensions. They are often used for flooring and roof framing in pre-fabricated buildings, as well as in architectural millwork such as door and window frames. I-joists can also be used for large-scale industrial applications, such as in the construction of bridges and heavy industrial equipment.

In addition to their structural benefits, I-joists are also highly sustainable. They are made from renewable wood sources, and their precise construction results in less waste during the manufacturing process. Overall, I-joists offer a cost-effective, durable, and environmentally friendly solution for many manufacturing applications.
