Inflation accelerates in December 2024

Prices increased on the faster pace again, adding to inflationary worries.
The Consumer price Indexes increased by 0.4 % in December 2024 on the seasonally adjusted basis, reported by the U.S. Labor Department. Cpi jumped by 2.9 % for the year, as the core rate increased on the higher rate than total consumer prices.
With prices rising across the board, consumer had to paid more money for food, energy, gasoline, while within communication sector prices declined.
Core CPI the measure of retail-level inflation that strips out food and energy prices to get a better handle on underlying inflationary trends, increased less than total consumer price by 0.2 % on the seasonally adjusted basis.
Some economists prefer core cpi over the total CPI, because they believe it provides a better idea of longer-term inflationary trends.
Over the last 12 months, CPI excluding food and energy soared by 3.2 %.

Fuels & Transportation
Energy and commoditie prices grew by higher rate than in previous month, commodities by 0.6% and energy grew by 2.6 % on the seasonally adjusted basis, over the past 12 months, energy decreased by -0.5 %.

The Consumer Price Index for Transportation
advanced by 1.40 %, from Nov. 2024 and
went up by 1.60 %, from Dec. 2023.
New vehicles
increased by 0.50 %, from Nov. 2024 and
fell by -0.40 %, from Dec. 2023.
Gasoline all types
climbed by 4.40 %, from Nov. 2024 and
fell by -3.40 %, from Dec. 2023. Public transportation
advanced by 2.70 %, from Nov. 2024 and
climbed by 5.70 %, from Dec. 2023.

|
Prices for housing have increased on the same pace like in previous month, housing grew by 0.3 % on the seasonally adjusted basis, energy services rose the most, by 0.8 %. Over the past 12 months, prices for housing grew by 4.1 %.
Apparel prices have increased by smaller rate than a month ago, apparel prices advanced by 0.1 % on the seasonally adjusted basis, led by increases in infants, toddlers, women's, girls, men's and boys apparel.
Inflation is one of the main indicators used by U.S. central bank to determine monetary policy. Apparel prices increased by 1.2 % from Dec. 2023.

Food & beverages prices have increased by a smaller rate than a month ago, food prices grew by 0.3 % on the seasonally adjusted basis, meats, poultry, fish & eggs prices rose the most, by 0.6 %. Food prices grew by 2.5 % over the past 12 months.
