Inflation on the rise again

CPI U.S. Economy



U.S. Consumer prices rose again after dipping in the last month, led by increase in gasoline prices.
The Labor Department announced total cpi edge up by 0.2 % in April on the seasonally adjusted basis. Overall CPI grew by 2.5 % over the past 12 months, as the core rate increased on the slower rate than total consumer price index.

With prices rising across the board, consumer had to paid more money for food, energy, gasoline, while within communication sector prices declined.

Stripping out the volatile food and energy categories, the core rate of consumer price inflation rose smaller than total consumer price by 0.1 % on the seasonally adjusted basis, hospital services, lodging and tuition prices grew above average, Car prices decline.
The core index is usually viewed by investors and the Federal Reserve as a better gauge of inflationary pressure because it excludes the volatile food and energy categories.
Over the past 12 months, stripping out the volatile food and energy categories, the core rate of consumer price inflation has climbed by 2.1 %.

Fuels & Transportation
Energy and commoditie prices grew by higher rate than in previous month, commodities by 0.4% and energy rose by 1.4 % on the seasonally adjusted basis, over the past 12 months, energy grew by 7.9 %.

CPI Fuel The Consumer Price Index for Transportation advanced by 0.20 %, from March 2018 and went up by 4.10 %, from April 2017.

New vehicles decreased by -0.50 %, from March 2018 and fell by -1.60 %, from April 2017.

Gasoline all types climbed by 3.00 %, from March 2018 and rose by 13.40 %, from April 2017. Public transportation decreased by -1.60 %, from March 2018 and fell by -3.00 %, from April 2017.

Food   Housing & Apparel
Food & beverages prices continue to grow by higher rate, food prices grew by 0.3 % on the seasonally adjusted basis, meats, poultry, fish & eggs prices rose the most, by 0.7 %. Food prices advanced by 1.4 % for the year.
Prices for housing have increased on the same pace like in previous month, housing grew by 0.3 % on the seasonally adjusted basis, as prices for household furnishings increased the most. Prices for housing jumped by 3 % for the year.


Apparel prices have rebounded from decline in previous period, apparel prices grew by 0.3 % on the seasonally adjusted basis, led by increases in womens, girls, apparel, infants and toddlers apparel. Apparel prices rose by 0.8 % over the past 12 months.
