U.S. Factory Orders Economic Indicators

Orders for U.S.-made products increased in January on the seasonally adjusted basis by 1.98 % to $590 billions, an increase of $11.4 billions from $579 in December, reported by the Commerce Department. Over the past 12 months, but inventories grew by 0.70 %, Bookings for U.S.-made products decreased by -0.73 %.



What's more, orders excluding defense and transportation surged by 2.14 % on the seasonally adjusted basis and shipments by 0.43 %.
That closely watched category gives a better read on trends in the private sector because it excludes transportation and government spending on defense.
Excluding defense and transportation fell by -1.37 %, but unfilled orders grew by 0.18 % from Dec. 2023.

Shipments grew in January by 0.41 % to $592 billions, an increase of $2 billions from $590 in December on the seasonally adjusted basis, as shipments for aircrafts and parts grew 22.03 % to $ billions, reported by the Commerce Department. Shipments excluding transportation grew by 0.23 %.

The Commerce Department announced total factory inventories edge up by 0.06 % to $864 billions, an increase of $1 billions from $863 in December in January on the seasonally adjusted basis, led by -0.61 % growth in ships and boats inventories, representing 1.15 % of total inventories. Inventory to shipments ratio fell to 1.46 from 1.46 in the previous month.

Unfilled orders have rebounded from decline in previous period, unfilled orders surged by 0.31 % on the seasonally adjusted basis, led by 1.63 % growth in household appliances, representing 0.46 % of total unfilled bookings. total factory inventories rose by 0.53 % over the past 12 months.
