Wholesale prices grow less then a month ago

PPI U.S. Economy

U.S. Producer price index continued to rise in April, but on the lower pace.
The Labor Department announced total PPI edge up by 0.1 % in April on the seasonally adjusted basis. Crude petroleum prices continue to trend higher by 7.2%, preventing consumers to spend more money on other items, as fuel costs are one of major household expense. Wholesale prices rose by 2.6 % in the past 12 months, as the core rate increased on the slower rate than total ppi.

Other Goods
Prices for intermediate goods have rebounded from decline in previous period, intermediate prices jumped by 0.5 % on the seasonally adjusted basis, led by price increases in materials for food manufacturing and construction materials. Core intermediate rate grew by 0.3 % on the seasonally adjusted basis. The core component of PPI is viewed as a key leading indicator of inflation. Over the past 12 months, intermediate prices grew by 4.7 %.

Intermediate products are items such as steel, processed from iron ore, before it is made into cars.

PPI (Picture Autor: Hinrich licence Creative Commons) Stripping out the volatile food and energy categories, the core rate of producer price index rose equally to total producer price index by 0.1 % on the seasonally adjusted basis, consumer paid more for core intermediate materials, nondurable goods and construction materials. Copper prices fell.
The core index is usually viewed by investors and the Federal Reserve as a better gauge of inflationary pressure because it excludes the volatile food and energy categories.
Core rate of producer price inflation grew by 2.2 % over the past 12 months.

Crude materials prices have rebounded from decline in previous period, the cost of raw materials increased by 0.9 % on the seasonally adjusted basis, cost for manufacturing materials grew the most, led by higher costs for iron ore, by 7.6 %, aluminum base scrap by 1.7 %. Excluding food and energy, core crude rate, which the Federal Reserve pays close attention for signs of inflation increased by 0.7 % on the seasonally adjusted basis. Over the last 12 months, crude materials prices soared by 3.2 %.
