The construction of new homes, as well as the issuance of new building permits declined in April 2022, following gain in previous period. U.S. housing starts faded in April 2022 by -3.8 % on the seasonally adjusted basis to annual rate of 1,724,000 units, a decrease of 69,000 units from 1,793,000 in March 2022, reported by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The construction of single-family fell by -8.3% to annual rate of 1,100,000 units. The increase in rental demand led to higher construction of apartments, accounting for 36.19 % of total housing starts.
A healthier housing market, however, would give a big boost to the economy.
In construction of housing units was bellow average rate of 1,319,429 housing starts.

Permits fell by -2.9 % or 54,000 units to an annual rate of 1,724,000 units, from 1,793,000 in March 2022 on the seasonally adjusted basis Most of April 2022´s decline in building permits took place in the Northeast and it was concentrated in single-family buildings.
Building permits fell -14.2 % in the Northeast while the permits for single-family houses deteriorated -3.2 % to 1,100,000 units.
The single-family permits are considered to be the most important number in the government's release. Over the last year, monthly building permits soared by 3.4 %
From April 2021, housing starts jumped by 9.9 %, led by construction of homes in the South by 15.2 %, this is the main reason why some economists are optimistic about the housing market, despite the recent slowdown.

housing units were authorized at seasonally adjusted annual rate of 163,000
units, an

units, an

units April 2021.
- In
West housing units were authorized at seasonally adjusted
annual rate of 423,000
units, an
decrease of
43,000
units,
or
-9.23 % from 466,000
units March 2022 and an
increase of
0.48 % from 421,000
units April 2021.

- In
South housing units were authorized at seasonally adjusted annual rate of 982,000
units, an
increase of 23,000
units,
or 2.40 % from 959,000
units March 2022 and an
increase of 4.14 % from 943,000
units April 2021.
