Travel And Leisure Co's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

The vacation ownership business primarily competes with short-term leisure travel options, including hotels, resorts, cruises, and home or apartment rental and sharing services. It also competes with other timeshare companies for customers, development projects, and talent. Key competitive factors include brand recognition and reputation, lifetime value, location and availability of development sites, convenience, accommodation quality, alignment with customer lifestyles and travel preferences, service levels, technological innovation, cost, amenities, customer loyalty, and flexibility. The industry comprises well-capitalized branded companies such as Marriott Vacations Worldwide, Hilton Grand Vacations, Disney Vacation Club, and Holiday Inn Club Vacations. Competition extends to property acquisitions, partnerships, and recruitment, particularly in sales and management roles. Competitors range from small independent vacation ownership firms to large branded hospitality companies engaged in development, financing, and operation of timeshare properties. The company generally does not face competition in consumer financing for vacation ownership interest sales at the time of sale but competes with financial institutions offering other consumer credit products that may result in prepayment of timeshare financing receivables.

Weaknesses

  • Return on equity 39.0 points below the industry aggregate.
  • Underperforming the U.S.A. 500 over the trailing 12 months.
  • Low relative market share vs the industry leader (0.02x).
