Citigroup Inc's Comment on Supply Chain

Citi develops proprietary software and utilizes third-party applications, exposing the company to cybersecurity risks including zero-day vulnerabilities. The adoption of cloud technologies, artificial intelligence, digital assets, and remote working solutions further increases exposure to cyber threats. Operating globally, including in regions affected by geopolitical conflicts such as the Russia–Ukraine war and Middle East unrest, Citi faces heightened risks from insider threats and nation-state cyberattacks. Third-party vendors involved in processing customer credit card transactions, managing customer-facing websites, and software development also present cybersecurity risks. These relationships involve the storage and processing of customer information, which could result in security breaches or business disruptions. Although Citi’s agreements with third parties often include indemnification provisions, recovery from losses due to cyber incidents is not assured. Citi and its partners have experienced various cyberattacks, including denial of service attacks, hacking, malicious software installations, data breaches, and malware attacks on client systems. While Citi’s cybersecurity program has generally been effective, some past incidents have caused limited losses and increased monitoring costs.
