The property and casualty insurance industry includes numerous regional and national companies, varying in size and financial resources. Competitors may be domestic or foreign, licensed or unlicensed, and compete based on factors such as reliability, financial strength, ratings, underwriting consistency, service, ethics, price, performance, capacity, policy terms, and coverage conditions. The company markets its primary commercial products exclusively through independent insurance agencies and faces competition both within these agencies and in retaining qualified independent agents. Competitors utilize independent agents, exclusive agents, and direct sales channels. The company provides competitive commissions and profit-sharing plans to incentivize agents.
