Summit Materials Inc's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

The company is a top six supplier of aggregates, a top four producer of cement, and a significant producer of ready-mix concrete and asphalt paving mix in the United States by volume, including operations acquired from Argos USA in January 2024. Its competitors in aggregates include large vertically integrated companies with an estimated combined market share of approximately 30%, as well as various local suppliers. In cement, most U.S. producers are owned by large foreign companies operating internationally, with the company's largest competitors being large vertically integrated firms. The company operates cement plants in Hannibal, Missouri, and Davenport, Iowa, with a combined capacity of approximately 2.4 million short tons per annum, supported by a network of nine distribution terminals along the Mississippi River. Competitive factors include price, reliability, location, quality, and support services. The company has converted all of its cement production to Portland Limestone Cement to reduce CO2 emissions.
