Smith Midland's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

The precast concrete industry is characterized by a mix of a few large national companies and numerous small to mid-size firms, with competition primarily localized due to the weight and delivery costs of products. This results in a fragmented market with many regional manufacturers. The Company operates plants in Midland, Virginia; Reidsville, North Carolina; and Hopkins (Columbia), South Carolina, competing primarily in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States. Key competitive factors include price, durability, ease of use and installation, production and delivery speed, customization capabilities, FHWA and state approvals, and customer service. The Company also holds intellectual property protections, including patents, trade dress, and design protections, which help limit new competitors, although some patents have expired.
