Sintx Technologies Inc's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

The company is the sole provider of medical-grade silicon nitride-based products, holding FDA clearance for its silicon nitride Valeo products and the SiNAPTIC® Foot & Ankle Osteotomy Wedge System. Alternative biomaterials include PEEK, primarily manufactured by Invibio; BIOLOX® delta, a traditional oxide ceramic produced by CeramTec; allograft bone; metals; and coated metals. Key competitors in the medical device market using various biomaterials are Medtronic, Inc.; DePuy Synthes Companies (part of Johnson & Johnson); Stryker Corporation; and Zimmer Biomet, Inc. These companies source ceramic components on an OEM basis from manufacturers such as CeramTec, Kyocera, and CoorsTek, Inc. In the antipathogenic market segment, main competitors include BactiGuard and MicroBan. Competition is based on technology, innovation, product quality, and customer acceptance. Principal competitors possess substantially greater financial, technical, marketing, and manufacturing resources, which may enable them to develop products that could render the company's offerings non-competitive. The company's success depends on its ability to develop innovative products with advanced performance features.

Weaknesses

  • Operating margin 876.5 points below the industry median.
  • Return on equity 606.7 points below the industry aggregate.
