Oppenheimer Holdings Inc's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

Oppenheimer operates in a highly competitive environment within the securities and investment banking industry. Its competitors include other securities firms, banks, and investment banking boutiques, many of which possess greater resources and offer a broader range of financial services. Additional competition arises from commercial banks, insurance companies, private equity firms, financial sponsors, major corporations entering the securities sector through acquisitions, and Fintech companies providing online investment services targeting smaller investors. Foreign-based securities firms and commercial banks also compete in areas such as mergers and acquisitions advisory, leveraged buy-out financing, merchant banking, and bridge financing. Oppenheimer faces competition from web-based financial service providers and discount brokerage firms that typically offer lower levels of service, as well as from independent registered investment advisers (RIAs). The company primarily competes based on the quality of its advisors, services, product selection, location, and reputation in local markets, with its competitive position reliant on attracting, retaining, and motivating qualified professionals.
