Neuropace Inc's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

The company operates in the neuromodulation device market for treating drug-resistant focal epilepsy patients who are not suitable candidates for or decline ablative or resective surgery. Its primary competitors are LivaNova plc, manufacturer of the VNS System, and Medtronic plc, manufacturer of the DBS System. These competitors are larger, well-capitalized firms with extensive resources, including established sales and marketing programs, broad product portfolios, long operating histories, established relationships with healthcare professionals, manufacturing scale, financial capacity for product development, and brand recognition. The company positions its RNS System based on its tolerability, efficacy, continuous brain data access, and ability to address unmet needs in epilepsy care. It also competes with these companies for qualified personnel. The company faces challenges related to patent protection and intellectual property rights, as competitors may develop systems outside its patent coverage. Its commercial success depends on securing and enforcing adequate patent claims and avoiding infringement of third-party intellectual property rights.
