Cytosorbents's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

The cardiovascular surgery market includes several competitors and products. Brilinta competes with Plavix (clopidogrel, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Sanofi) and Effient (prasugrel, Daiichi Sankyo, Eli Lilly). Generic ticagrelor has been available in the U.S. since mid-2025. In blood purification therapies aimed at cytokine reduction, competitors include Oxiris and SepteX (Vantive), PMMA (Toray), HA330 and HA380 (Jafron), therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) from multiple manufacturers, Efferon-CT and Efferon-LPS (Efferon), and EMIC-2 (Fresenius Medical Care). CytoSorb is the only therapy approved in the European Union for removal of ticagrelor and rivaroxaban (Xarelto®, Janssen, Bayer) during cardiac surgery. One competitor voluntarily withdrew its product from FDA consideration due to safety concerns, potentially reducing competitive pressure. The company's products employ a different modality and may be viewed more favorably. Currently, no therapies are specifically approved for cytokine removal except ECOS-300CY for ex vivo organ perfusion. VetResQ utilizes polymer technology comparable to CytoSorb. Litigation among competitors is frequent, involving multiple lawsuits and settlements that impact patent portfolios and competitive dynamics. Competitors identified include Bayer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Daiichi Sankyo, Efferon, Eli Lilly, Fresenius Medical Care, Jafron, Janssen, Sanofi, Toray, and Vantive.
