The company operates in the pharmaceutical industry, facing competition primarily from generic opioid and stimulant markets, including both long-acting/extended-release and immediate-release drugs. It also competes with non-opioid alternative drugs developed by other pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated is a noted competitor, having received approval in January 2025 for suzetrigine to treat moderate to severe acute pain in adults. The company's products Belbuca, Xtampza ER, and the Nucynta Products compete with oral opioids, transdermal opioids, local anesthetic patches, and implantable and external infusion pumps. Jornay PM competes with branded and generic methylphenidate products for ADHD treatment. Competitors generally have greater financial and other resources. Key competitive factors include therapeutic efficacy, convenience of dosing and distribution, abuse deterrence (specifically for Xtampza ER), safety, and cost.
