Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

The global fresh produce industry is characterized by intense competition due to the perishable nature of its products. Key competitive factors include price, product quality, brand recognition, customer loyalty, reliability, marketing effectiveness, and the ability to adapt to changing consumer preferences. Sales are affected by seasonal variations and the availability of alternative produce. Historically, the primary competitors have been multinational producers of bananas and pineapples. The company competes with local and regional producers and distributors in both fresh produce and fresh-cut categories. In the banana segment, competition arises from a few large multinational companies and numerous small producers, with low barriers to entry. In the pineapple segment, higher barriers to entry exist due to capital requirements and cultivation expertise, with main competitors comprising large multinational producers as well as smaller exporters and importers. The fresh-cut produce market is fragmented, featuring competition from local and regional distributors alongside some large branded producers and distributors. The company’s profitability is significantly dependent on Del Monte Gold® Extra Sweet pineapples. It seeks to leverage opportunities presented by retail chains and grocers outsourcing fresh-cut operations. Del Monte is identified as a competitor in the company’s filings.
