Western New England Bancorp Inc's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

The company competes with national mutual funds, registered investment advisors, non-bank electronic payment and funding channels, internet-based banks, and other financial intermediaries. Competition is anticipated to increase due to legislative, regulatory, and technological changes, as well as consolidation within the financial services industry. Technological advancements have reduced market entry barriers and enabled banks and lenders to expand geographically through the internet. Changes in federal law permitting affiliations among banks, securities firms, and insurance companies have also contributed to increased competition. The company employs an experienced commercial lending staff and utilizes an external third-party loan review firm to evaluate credit ratings in its commercial loan portfolio.
