Union Bankshares Inc's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

Union faces competitive pressures from tax-advantaged credit unions and other financial service providers in northern Vermont and New Hampshire. The company also contends with industry consolidation, integration, and changes in technology and delivery systems. The Dodd-Frank Act, which enabled interstate banking and branching, has increased competition but allowed Union to expand operations into New Hampshire through branch conversions, acquisitions, and new branch openings. Union competes by leveraging its independent status, focusing on personal service, timely decision-making, local promotional activities, and community involvement.
