Description of Birchtech
Birchtech Corp. specializes in activated carbon technologies for air and water purification, with a focus on mercury emissions capture in the coal-fired utility sector. Its primary product, the SEA® process, is a patented two-part mercury capture solution designed to reduce mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants. This technology aims to lower costs and operational impacts while maintaining or increasing power plant output and preserving the marketability of byproducts. Birchtech customizes systems and materials for individual coal-fired units, primarily serving the North American market. The demand for its mercury removal solutions is driven by federal regulations, including the EPA's Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) rule, which targets heavy metal emissions from major U.S. coal and oil power plants. The SEA® technology complies with or exceeds MATS requirements, is effective across various fuel and system types, and supports environmentally friendly practices such as fly ash recycling. Additionally, Birchtech is developing water purification technologies aimed at removing persistent chemicals like PFAS and PFOS.
The registrant's reportable segments align with those detailed in Note 3, "Basis of Presentation and Summary of Significant Accounting Policies." Segment net loss was $(3,026,007) in 2025 and $(10,802,111) in 2024. Segment assets are reviewed solely at the consolidated level by the Chief Operating Decision Maker (CODM).
