Atlantic Union Bankshares's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

The company operates within the financial services industry, competing with national and regional financial institutions, credit unions, independent community banks, consumer finance companies, mortgage companies, loan production offices, mutual funds, life insurance companies, and fintech companies. Key competitive factors include interest rates, branch locations, product offerings, digital capabilities, and institutional reputation. Credit unions have expanded their membership and benefit from favorable tax status, enabling more attractive loan and deposit pricing. Non-bank affiliates also compete by offering products traditionally provided by banks but often operate under fewer federal regulations, allowing for greater lending limits and product variety. As of June 30, 2025, the company held a 6.3% deposit market share in Virginia, making it the largest regional bank in that market according to FDIC data.

Weaknesses

  • Low relative market share vs the industry leader (0.05x).

Opportunities

  • Industry revenue growing at a healthy 11.8% median pace.

Threats

  • High capital intensity requires continuous reinvestment just to keep pace with the industry.
