Alaska Air Group Inc's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

The airline industry is characterized by intense and unpredictable competition, primarily from other airlines and, to a lesser extent, other transportation modes. Competition may be direct, involving carriers operating the same non-stop routes, or indirect, with airlines serving the same cities through alternative airports or connecting flights. Delta Air Lines Inc. represents the largest competitor, accounting for approximately 78% of capacity competition to and from Seattle. Southwest Airlines and United Airlines also serve as significant competitors, particularly on routes to Hawai'i and the West Coast. Routes to Hawai'i, California, transcontinental, and international destinations experience higher levels of competition compared to those within the Pacific Northwest. Key factors influencing customer choice include fares and ancillary services, with travelers able to readily compare prices and promotions.
