AR-USD
Arweave is a decentralized storage and application platform that utilizes blockchain technology to offer permanent data storage. The Arweave network is designed as a Long-Term Public Data Storage (LTPDS) system, which functions differently from other blockchain networks currently in existence. At the core of the Arweave platform is its native cryptocurrency, AR-USD.
AR-USD is the native cryptocurrency of the Arweave network. It is used to incentivize miners and provide a means of payment for services and transactions on the network. Unlike traditional cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum, AR-USD is not mined through the proof-of-work consensus mechanism. Instead, it is created through a unique process known as "proof-of-access". This consensus mechanism ensures that all data stored on the network is immutable and cannot be altered or deleted.
Another unique feature of the Arweave network is its self-sustaining funding model. The network has a built-in mechanism that allocates a portion of transaction fees to a decentralized organization known as the "Arweave Treasury". The funds in this treasury are then used to fund further network development and incentivize developers to create new applications and tools on top of the Arweave platform. This ensures that the network remains sustainable and continues to grow and evolve over time.
In terms of its technical specifications, AR-USD is an ERC-20 token that runs on the Ethereum blockchain. This allows for easy integration into existing cryptocurrency wallets and exchanges. The supply of AR-USD is currently capped at 66 million tokens, with approximately 42 million tokens currently in circulation.
Overall, Arweave and its native cryptocurrency AR-USD offer a unique solution to the challenges of permanent data storage and decentralized application development. Its innovative consensus and funding mechanisms ensure the sustainability of the network over time, while its technical specifications make it easy to integrate into the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem.
