Kingstone Companies Inc's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

KICO operates in the competitive insurance market primarily in downstate New York. On April 14, 2025, KICO entered into an agreement to offer replacement policies to selected homeowners policyholders in downstate New York following a competitor's Withdrawal Plan, approved by the New York Department of Financial Services. This competitor had written approximately $70 million in premium. The Withdrawal Plan enabled KICO to expand its presence by partnering with new distribution channels. KICO competes with other property and casualty insurers within producers' offices, focusing on producer relationships, competitive rates, and service. Established in New York since 1886, KICO employs advanced underwriting and risk management practices. Since 2022, the company has reduced its operations in other Northeast states, including New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. On August 2, 2024, two major competitors announced plans to exit their personal lines operations in New York, impacting market conditions.

Kingstone Companies Inc's SWOT

Every point below is a fixed rule applied to a metric already shown elsewhere on this page (Market Structure, Profitability, Valuation, Run-Rate, Stock Performance, Quality Breadth) not an independent strategic assessment. A blank quadrant means no rule was met, not that none apply.

Strengths

  • Return on equity 15.1 points above the industry aggregate.
  • Latest-quarter revenue run-rate is accelerating (+10.8% annualized vs trailing 12 months).
  • Outperforming the U.S.A. 500 over the trailing 12 months.

Weaknesses

  • Low relative market share vs the industry leader (0.00x).

Opportunities

  • Trades at a lower P/E than the industry average (7.1x vs 13.2x) despite a higher return on invested capital -- a possible re-rating opportunity.

Threats

  • High capital intensity requires continuous reinvestment just to keep pace with the industry.

Methodology: mechanical, rule-based SWOT. Each bullet reuses a figure already sourced and cited elsewhere on this page; nothing here is generated narrative or independent analyst judgment.
