The contraceptive products industry is characterized by significant competition from large pharmaceutical companies, specialty pharmaceutical firms, generic drug manufacturers, and medical device companies. The company competes with various non-permanent birth control methods, including non-hormonal barrier methods such as contraceptive sponges, diaphragms, cervical caps or shields, and condoms, as well as hormonal methods including oral contraceptives, injections, implants, hormonal intrauterine devices (IUDs), vaginal rings, and transdermal contraceptive products. Key competitors include Organon, which markets Nuvaring®; Mayne Pharmaceuticals, marketing Annovera® and Nextstellis®; Allergan (formerly Actavis), marketing the Loestrin® franchise; Bayer, marketing Beyaz®, Yaz®, Yasmin®, and Natazia®; Viatris, marketing Xulane®; Evofem, developer of Phexxi®; Mithra Pharmaceuticals, developer of Nextstellis®; and the Population Council, which is developing a transdermal gel contraceptive and a vaginal ring contraceptive.
