Description of Niagen Bioscience Inc
Niagen Bioscience, Inc., formerly ChromaDex Corporation, is a global bioscience company focused on research and commercialization of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) precursors. NAD+ is a coenzyme involved in cellular metabolism that declines with age. The company developed Niagen®, a proprietary form of nicotinamide riboside chloride (NR), a vitamin B3 derivative, commercialized since 2013 as a dietary and food ingredient. In 2017, Niagen Bioscience introduced Tru Niagen®, a dietary supplement for consumers, and in 2024 launched Niagen Plus products containing pharmaceutical-grade Niagen®. The company supplies pharmaceutical-grade Niagen® to FDA-registered 503B outsourcing facilities and compound pharmacies for prescription intravenous and injectable formulations. Food-grade Niagen® is recognized as safe by the FDA and other international regulatory agencies. Niagen Bioscience operates through three segments: Consumer Products, offering Tru Niagen® supplements via e-commerce and distributors worldwide; Ingredients, developing and supplying food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade Niagen® to manufacturers and compounding facilities; and Analytical Reference Standards and Services, providing research and quality-control products since 1999. The company maintains research collaborations and a scientific advisory board to support NAD+ science and healthy aging initiatives.
The company operates through three reportable business segments: Consumer Products, Ingredients, and Analytical Reference Standards and Services. The Consumer Products segment offers finished dietary supplement products containing proprietary ingredients under the Tru Niagen® brand. These products are marketed via direct-to-consumer channels and distributors, including proprietary e-commerce platforms, third-party online marketplaces, and strategic distribution partners. Internationally, Tru Niagen® products are sold in over 100 countries through strategic partners.
The Ingredients segment develops and commercializes proprietary ingredient technologies, including food-grade Niagen® and pharmaceutical-grade Niagen®. Food-grade Niagen® is supplied as a raw material to manufacturers of consumer products and is authorized for human consumption as a dietary supplement and recognized as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the U.S. FDA. Pharmaceutical-grade Niagen® is supplied to U.S. FDA-registered 503B outsourcing facilities for compounding into injectable formulations. This segment focuses on regulatory compliance, safety, toxicology, clinical trials, supply chain management, and manufacturing support, selling ingredient products directly or licensing them to third parties.
The Analytical Reference Standards and Services segment, established in 1999, provides research and quality-control products and services globally to customers in the dietary supplement, food and beverage, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and life sciences industries. It offers small quantities of highly characterized phytochemicals, natural products, and plant-based materials to support quality assurance.
