Description of Gsi Technology Inc
For many years we have developed and marketed high performance memory products,
including “Very Fast” static random access memory, or SRAM, and low
latency dynamic random access memory, or LLDRAM, that are incorporated primarily
in high-performance networking and telecommunications equipment, such as routers,
switches, wide area network infrastructure equipment, wireless base stations and
network access equipment. We sell these products to leading original equipment
manufacturer, or OEM, customers including Nokia and Cisco Systems. In addition,
we serve the ongoing needs of the military, industrial, test and measurement equipment,
automotive and medical markets for high-performance SRAMs. Based on the performance
characteristics of our products and the breadth of our product portfolio, we consider
ourselves to be a leading provider of Very Fast SRAMs. We utilize a fabless business
model, which allows us both to focus our resources on research and development,
product design and marketing, and to gain access to advanced process technologies
with only modest capital investment and fixed costs.
GSI Technology Inc. is a prominent player in the design, development, and marketing of high-performance memory products, focusing primarily on the networking and telecommunications sectors. The company has established a reputation for creating memory solutions that deliver very high transaction rates, high density, low latency, high bandwidth, fast clock access times, and low power consumption.
Product Segments
GSI Technologys product offerings are categorized into several segments, primarily revolving around Synchronous SRAMs, LLDRAMs, RadHard and RadTolerant products, associative computing solutions, and specialized applications geared towards diverse industries.
1. Synchronous SRAM Products
GSI Technologys Synchronous SRAMs are designed to operate with timing signals, making them simpler to use compared to older asynchronous SRAMs. This segment has been widely embraced in high-bandwidth applications due to its ability to achieve high data transfer rates.
- BurstRAM™ and NBT™ SRAMs:
- BurstRAM: Initially designed for microprocessor cache applications, these SRAMs excel in environments that require large data blocks to be read or written quickly. They are known for their robustness and are widely utilized across the synchronous SRAM market.
- NBT SRAMs: This innovation minimizes wasted time in data transfer when switching between read and write operations. Both BurstRAM and NBT SRAMs can perform burst transfers or single cycle transfers as needed by the user.
These products are available in various configurations, offering storage densities up to 288 megabits, with clock frequencies reaching up to 400 MHz and access times as fast as 2 nanoseconds.
- SigmaQuad and SigmaDDR Products:
- GSI Technology’s SigmaQuad family features separate I/O synchronous SRAMs, while the SigmaDDR family offers common I/O types. They are engineered to meet the demanding requirements of modern networking and telecommunications environments.
- With capabilities that reach clock speeds up to 1,333 MHz and densities of 18 megabits to 288 megabits, these products support various power supply specifications, ensuring versatility across applications.
Low Latency DRAM Products
GSIs LLDRAM offerings occupy a unique segment between standard commodity DRAMs and fast SRAMs, filling a market niche for applications requiring moderate performance. LLDRAMs are characterized by one-third the latency of conventional DRAM and four times the density of fast SRAM, making them an attractive middle ground for system designers.
- Available in configurations including 288 megabit and 576 megabit options, LLDRAMs can achieve speeds of up to 533 MHz. They operate at power supply levels of 1.8 volts and support both 1.8 volt and 1.5-volt interfaces, promoting compatibility across various systems.
RadHard and RadTolerant SRAM Products
Recognizing the specialized needs of aerospace and military sectors, GSI Technology offers RadHard and RadTolerant SRAM products designed for extreme environments, such as networking satellites and missile systems.
- The initial products in this range, primarily 288 megabit devices from the SigmaQuad-II family, utilize hermetically sealed ceramic packaging to withstand high radiation, ensuring reliability in mission-critical applications.
Emerging Technologies
- Associative Computing Solutions:
After acquiring MikaMonu, GSI Technology has invested in developing in-place associative computing solutions, leveraging a patented technology with potential applications in ig data, natural language processing, machine learning, and cybersecurity. This portfolio aims to expand into evolving markets requiring advanced computational capabilities.
Applications and Industries Served
GSI Technologys products are integral to various applications across multiple industries:
- Networking and Telecommunications: From core routers and multi-service access routers to optical edge routers and Ethernet switches.
- Military and Aerospace: Used in radar systems, guidance systems, satellites, and other technologies demanding high reliability and performance.
- Professional Audio: Solutions tailored for high-performance sound mixing systems.
- Test and Measurement: High-speed testers that require robust and efficient memory solutions.
- Automotive: Applications include smart vehicle systems like cruise control.
- Medical Equipment: Key memory products are utilized in imaging technologies, including ultrasound and CAT scans.
Commitment to Longevity
GSI Technology distinguishes itself by committing to prolonged product availability, typically extending for seven years or more after initial product introduction. This commitment includes the continued supply of products in various package types, even those phased out by competitors, ensuring lasting support for OEMs and end-users alike.
GSI Technology Inc. remains at the forefront of high-performance memory solutions, continually advancing its technology to meet the dynamic needs of the markets it serves.
