In the wake of a lackluster financial performance, global advisory and solutions company Willis Towers Watson (WTW) reinforces investor confidence with the appointment of Nick Dussuyer as Head of France and Head of Corporate Risk & Broking (CRB) France. As WTW strives to regain its footing, this strategic move aims to optimize its capital structure and drive shareholder value.
The announcement comes in the wake of the company’s underwhelming return on average invested assets (ROI) of 6.13% in the third quarter of 2023, falling below its average ROI of 7.95%. Despite a net income growth of 44.79% from the previous quarter, WTW failed to maintain its ROI momentum. Additionally, within the Financial sector, 105 other companies outperformed WTW with a higher ROI, signifying a challenge for the company within the industry.
This drop in ROI has negatively impacted WTW’s total ranking, which deteriorated from 238 to 1183 compared to the previous quarter. With such figures, the company faces a crucial period in its financial performance as it seeks to regain its competitive edge in the market.
To fortify investor confidence and optimize its capital structure, WTW has also announced an increase in its existing share repurchase authority by $1 billion. This decision aims to deliver value to shareholders by reducing the total number of outstanding shares in the market. By increasing the ownership percentage held by existing shareholders, positive outcomes such as enhanced earnings per share (EPS), an uplift in stock price, and increased overall market capitalization can be achieved.
WTW’s expanded share repurchase program reflects management’s belief that the market currently undervalues the company’s stock relative to its intrinsic value. With approximately $545 million remaining on the current open-ended repurchase authority, the firm intends to utilize these funds strategically, considering various market and economic conditions, legal requirements, and other business considerations.
In light of these developments, WTW demonstrates its confidence in long-term growth prospects and its proactive approach towards capital management. The appointment of Nick Dussuyer as Head of France and Head of Corporate Risk & Broking (CRB) France, along with other key leadership appointments, further underlines its commitment to strengthen the organization and navigate through challenging times effectively.
