Transphorm Unveils New Bidirectional SuperGaN Power Supply for Electric Vehicles and Energy Markets
Transphorm, Inc. (Nasdaq: TGAN), the leading provider of robust GaN power semiconductors, has announced the release of a new 300-Watt DC-to-DC GaN reference design for battery chargers used in 2- and 3-wheeled electric vehicles. The TDDCDC-TPH-IN-BI-LLC-300W-RD utilizes 150-mOhm SuperGaN FETs (field effect transistors) in a TO-220 package, enabling a high-performance and highly efficient energy generation and storage system.
Transphorm’s latest reference design introduces cutting-edge GaN technology that is specifically designed to optimize battery charging in electric vehicles. With the increasing demand for electric mobility solutions, efficient charging systems are crucial for the widespread adoption of these vehicles. The 150-mOhm SuperGaN FETs used in the design offer high power density and superior thermal performance, making the charging process faster and more efficient.
This development comes at a time when Transphorm is facing some challenges in the market. According to recent reports, the company experienced a year-on-year revenue decrease of 5.91% in the fourth quarter of 2023, which is a faster decline compared to its competitors’ overall decrease of 2.89%. Although most of Transphorm’s competitors reported income growth, the company suffered a net loss during the same period.
Additionally, Transphorm’s market share dropped to 0.01% in the fourth quarter of 2023 from the previous quarter. This decline in market share reflects the increasing competition in the industry, prompting Transphorm to continue innovating and developing new solutions to stay competitive.
Despite these challenges, Transphorm remains a leading player in the GaN power semiconductor market. With the release of their new 300-Watt DC-to-DC GaN reference design for electric vehicle battery chargers, Transphorm aims to address the growing need for efficient and reliable charging solutions in the electric mobility and energy sectors.
