Ascendis Pharma Presents New Data on Promising Treatments at ASCO 2024
Ascendis Pharma, a biopharmaceutical company based in Denmark, has recently presented new data and updated results from its clinical trials at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2024 conference. The findings highlight the efficacy and safety of their innovative treatment approaches.
In the initial cohort of patients with anti-PD-1 refractory melanoma, Ascendis Pharma conducted a Phase 1/2 clinical trial evaluating the combination of TransCon IL-2 and TransCon TLR7/8 Agonist. The trial showed that 40% of efficacy-evaluable patients (2 out of 5) exhibited confirmed clinical responses. Importantly, no new safety signals were observed, indicating the treatment’s tolerability.
Another significant breakthrough by Ascendis Pharma relates to the treatment of children with Achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism. In their ACcomplisH trial, the company analyzed data from the blinded and ongoing open-label extension (OLE) portions. All 57 patients, ages 2-10, completed one year of treatment with TransCon CNP (navepegritide) at a dose of 100 g/kg/week. This dose was recommended by regulatory agencies for the active arm in the pivotal ApproaCH Trial. The analyses revealed significant health and quality of life improvements in the children.
Furthermore, Ascendis Pharma conducted a Phase 3 foresiGHt trial, assessing the efficacy of TransCon hGH (lonapegsomatropin) in adults with growth hormone deficiency. The results showed statistically superior outcomes compared to the placebo group. Notably, TransCon hGH demonstrated a reduction in trunk fat and an increase in total body lean mass at Week 38 compared to baseline.
These findings demonstrate the potential of Ascendis Pharma’s innovative treatments in various therapeutic areas. The combination of TransCon IL-2 and TransCon TLR7/8 Agonist shows promising results in treating anti-PD-1 refractory melanoma, indicating a significant step forward in the treatment of this aggressive cancer. Additionally, TransCon CNP at 100 g/kg/week offers substantial health improvements for children with Achondroplasia, addressing an unmet medical need. Lastly, TransCon hGH proves its efficacy in improving body composition in adults with growth hormone deficiency.
Overall, Ascendis Pharma’s latest data presents a positive outlook for the future of these treatment modalities, potentially improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
