Description of Orion S A's Business Segments


The registrant operates two reportable segments: Specialty Carbon Black and Rubber Carbon Black. The Specialty Carbon Black segment produces various grades designed for specialized applications including polymers, batteries, printing, and coatings. These grades vary in primary particle size, structure, surface area, and surface chemistry, influencing properties such as jetness, tinting strength, undertone, dispersibility, and electrical conductivity. Specialty Carbon Black products are utilized to provide color, rheology control, conductivity, static charge control, UV protection, mechanical property enhancement, and formulation flexibility. Key applications include coatings, inks, plastics, adhesives, toners, and batteries. Specific product lines include Carbon Black for Coatings, which is used for pigmentation, protection, conductivity, and tinting in automotive base coats, architectural coatings, paints, and transparent coatings; and Carbon Black for Polymers, which serves markets such as pipe, construction, energy distribution, automotive, agriculture, and consumer packaging by providing UV protection, electrical conductivity, antistatic properties, and reinforcement.
