Description of Advent Technologies Holdings Inc
Advent Technologies Holdings, Inc. is a materials and technology development company specializing in fuel cell and hydrogen technologies, including liquid hydrogen carriers such as methanol. The company holds approximately 150 patents worldwide in High Temperature Proton Exchange Membrane (HT-PEM) technology. Its HT-PEM fuel cells support off-grid power systems by generating energy from fuels including hydrogen, methanol, bio- and e-methanol, and renewable natural gas, operating under extreme environmental conditions. Advent develops and manufactures Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs) and fuel cell stacks, key components influencing fuel cell performance and cost. The company collaborates with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to deliver fuel cell systems for stationary power and heavy-duty mobility markets, aiming to reduce total cost of ownership compared to diesel generators and internal combustion engines. Revenue is primarily derived from Joint Development Agreements and Technology Assessment Agreements with OEMs. Strategic partners include Airbus, Hyundai Motors, Siemens Energy, and the US Army. Advent operates facilities in Livermore, California, and Patras, Greece. Current projects include the RESCUE initiative for portable backup power and the RHyno project focused on developing megawatt-scale fuel cells and electrolysers for decarbonizing heavy industries.
The Company operates as a single reportable operating segment. The Chief Executive Officer, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and General Counsel collectively serve as the chief operating decision-maker (CODM), overseeing the Company's operations as one segment for resource allocation and financial performance evaluation. Revenue by geographic location and segment expenses are detailed in Note 21.
