Research Frontiers does not control the timing or scale of product launches by its licensees or their customers. The company categorizes its licensees into four main areas: materials for making films (emulsions), film production, lamination of film to glass or plastic, and end-products. SPD displays face competition from commercially used display technologies such as liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). SPD displays may offer advantages including the absence of sheet polarizers or alignment layers and lower light loss; however, further development is needed to compete effectively, particularly for applications like full-motion video. Research Frontiers encourages competitors to participate in public forums to demonstrate the relative performance of electronically tintable products. There is no assurance that competitors will not develop comparable or superior systems at lower costs or that other products will not render Research Frontiers' products obsolete.
