Xenon Pharmaceuticals Inc's Comment on Competition and Industry Peers

The company utilizes trade secrets, internal expertise, technological innovations, and third-party agreements to maintain its competitive position. As of December 31, 2025, it owned or licensed multiple U.S. and foreign patents and pending applications related to its products, including azetukalner. The company competes with pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms, academic institutions, governmental agencies, and public and private research organizations. Competitors often possess greater financial resources and expertise in research and development, manufacturing, clinical testing, regulatory approvals, and marketing. Industry consolidation through mergers and acquisitions may concentrate resources among fewer competitors. Additionally, smaller or early-stage companies may pose significant competition, particularly through collaborations with larger firms. The company's commercial opportunities may be diminished or eliminated if competitors develop safer, more effective, more convenient, or less expensive products or obtain regulatory approvals more quickly.
