The company operates in a competitive environment across its business segments and geographic markets, facing competition from national, regional, and community banks, as well as financial institutions including savings and loan associations, credit unions, finance companies, pension trusts, mutual funds, insurance companies, brokerage and investment banking firms, asset-based non-bank lenders, government agencies, and other non-financial institutions. Internet-based competitors and fintech companies also contribute to the competitive landscape. Key factors influencing competition include financial resources, lending limits, branch networks, product and service offerings, office locations, interest rates, fee structures, and pricing. Deposit competition involves other commercial banks, thrift institutions, money market mutual funds, and corporate and government securities. Loan competition is based on interest rates, loan origination fees, and the range of services provided. The broker-dealer segment similarly experiences significant competition.
