Verizon Partners with U.S. Military in Extreme Training to Enhance Natural Disaster Response Efforts

HATTIESBURG, Miss. Feb. 29, 2024 - As hurricane season approaches, Verizon has collaborated with the U.S. military to conduct a comprehensive training exercise aimed at strengthening their ability to restore critical communications during natural disasters. This unique initiative saw Verizon’s Response Team working alongside the Air Force, Mississippi National Guard, and Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) for a six-day training program conducted in and around Camp Shelby, Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

In addition to this commendable partnership, Verizon Communications Inc recently reported a notable increase of 8.07% in its corporate customers’ cost of revenue for the fourth quarter of 2023, compared to the same period the previous year. Sequentially, costs of revenue rose by 23.37%. During the same timeframe, Verizon Communications Inc noted a slight decline of -0.34% in revenue year on year but a sequential growth of 5.38%. Conversely, the company’s corporate clients in various sectors experienced a remarkable revenue surge of 13.91% year on year, with a sequential growth of 18.78%.This situation can be attributed to a surge in consumption, which resulted in an 8.07% increase in cost of sales compared to the previous year, as well as a decline in capital spending from their business customers. To gauge the consumer momentum accurately, it is crucial to consider specific sectors such as the Apparel, Footwear & Accessories Industry, which witnessed a rise in revenue by 1.78%, and the Personal Services Industry, which experienced a decline of -9.26%.The growth in revenue for Verizon Communications Inc’s corporate customers was primarily driven by the Internet, Mail Order & Online Shops industry. Among the fastest-growing clients within this sector are Amazon Com Inc (AMZN) and other well-performing companies. However, not all corporations displayed strength during this period, and certain fragile entities within the industry raised concerns.

Of particular interest is the impact of the decline in capital spending, which averages at -69.14%, on VZ’s business clients. To gain deeper insights into the investment in capital goods, industries closely linked to it, such as the Oil Well Services & Equipment Industry, experienced a rise of 9.91% in revenue during the same period.

While investments and spending are crucial economic indicators, stakeholders should also consider recently published data. The negative trends observed in Verizon’s market capitalization align with the challenges faced by its commercial partners. The CSIMarkets stock index of VZ’s commercial partners declined by 16.11% year to date, while VZ stocks reported a 3.16% decrease within the same timeframe.
