Denmark Achieves Self-Sufficiency in Natural Gas Production as TotalEnergies Restarts Tyra Offshore Hub

TotalEnergies, a global energy company, has successfully completed a major redevelopment project of the Tyra hub in the Danish North Sea, enabling the restart of gas production. With the hub now operational, Denmark is set to become self-sufficient and a net exporter of natural gas.

The Tyra hub is expected to produce a staggering 5.7 million cubic meters of gas and 22,000 barrels of condensate per day at plateau production levels. This reopening of the hub not only boosts Denmark’s energy independence but also strengthens its position as a significant contributor to the European gas market.

TotalEnergies, which operates the Tyra field on behalf of Dan, has achieved a remarkable feat in rejuvenating this key energy asset. The completion of the redevelopment project has enabled the company to bring the hub back to its full potential, catering to the increasing demand for natural gas in the region.

In addition to the Tyra hub reopening, TotalEnergies has also recently commenced production at the Akpo West field in Nigeria. Located 135 kilometers off the coast, Akpo West is tied back to the existing Akpo Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility, which has been active since 2009. In 2023, the Akpo West field produced an impressive 124,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, and by mid-2024, it is expected to add an additional 14,000 barrels of condensate production.

TotalEnergies’ commitment to expanding its global operations is further exemplified by the start of production from the second development phase of the Mero field in Brazil. The Mero-2 project, located in the pre-salt area of the Santos Basin, includes the Sepetiba FPSO with a production capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. This significant investment demonstrates TotalEnergies’ confidence in Brazil’s oil and gas sector and its strategic vision to establish a strong presence in the region.

With these exciting developments in Denmark, Nigeria, and Brazil, TotalEnergies continues to make significant strides in enhancing its global energy portfolio. The reopening of the Tyra hub in Denmark, in particular, marks a significant milestone for both TotalEnergies and the Danish energy sector, cementing Denmark’s role as a self-sufficient and influential player in the global natural gas market.
