Renewables: TotalEnergies and European Energy Collaborate to Expand Offshore Wind Projects in Nordic Countries
PARIS & COPENHAGEN, Denmark - TotalEnergies, a global energy provider, has announced a new partnership with European Energy to develop offshore wind projects in Denmark, Finland, and Sweden as part of its integrated development in electricity. The agreement involves TotalEnergies acquiring an 85% equity stake in the Jammerland Bugt offshore wind project, which is currently under development and has a capacity of 240 MW.
In addition to the Jammerland Bugt project, TotalEnergies and European Energy will also collaborate on two other offshore wind projects in the Nordic countries. This partnership further strengthens TotalEnergies’ commitment to renewable energy and supports their ambition of becoming a major player in the offshore wind industry.
The development of offshore wind projects aligns with TotalEnergies’ strategy to diversify its energy portfolio and reduce its carbon footprint. Offshore wind has proven to be a reliable and sustainable source of clean energy, capable of powering millions of homes. By investing in this sector, TotalEnergies is contributing to the global effort to combat climate change and transition towards a more sustainable future.
Denmark, Finland, and Sweden have significant offshore wind potential, with their favorable coastal geography and strong wind resources. The collaboration between TotalEnergies and European Energy will leverage their combined expertise to harness these resources and develop projects that will generate clean and renewable electricity.
TotalEnergies’ acquisition of an 85% equity stake in the Jammerland Bugt project demonstrates their confidence in the project’s potential for success. With a capacity of 240 MW, this offshore wind farm will contribute significantly to Denmark’s renewable energy goals and help the country advance towards its target of being carbon-neutral by 2050.
In addition to their partnership in the Nordic region, TotalEnergies has also made significant strides in other renewable energy markets. The company has recently signed two long-term contracts to provide solar electricity to LyondellBasell, a global leader in petrochemicals, in the United States. These contracts involve the supply of 275 MWac (358 MW) of green electricity from TotalEnergies’ solar farms in Cottonwood Bayou and Brazoria Solar in Texas.
Furthermore, TotalEnergies has signed an agreement to divest its minority stake in the Natref refinery in South Africa to the Prax Group. This move aligns with TotalEnergies’ strategy of divesting non-strategic assets. The Natref refinery, located in Sasolburg, plays a crucial role in the South African petroleum industry, and the sale is subject to the necessary approvals.
Overall, TotalEnergies’ collaboration with European Energy to develop offshore wind projects in the Nordic countries demonstrates their determination to expand their renewable energy portfolio. With significant investments in offshore wind, solar, and divestment of non-strategic assets, TotalEnergies is firmly establishing itself as a key player in the global energy transition.
