Snowflake Teams Up with Meta to Host and Optimize New Flagship AI Models

Snowflake, the AI Data Cloud company, has announced a collaboration with Meta to host the Llama 3.1 collection of multilingual open source large language models (LLMs) in Snowflake Cortex AI. This partnership aims to empower enterprises to easily harness and build powerful AI applications at scale. The Llama 3.1 collection includes Meta’s largest and most powerful open source LLM, Llama 3.1 405B. Additionally, Snowflake will be developing and open sourcing the inference system stack to enable real-time capabilities.

In another major development, Snowflake revealed the Polaris Catalog at its annual user conference, Snowflake Summit 2024. Polaris Catalog is a vendor-neutral and open catalog implementation for Apache Iceberg, which is the preferred open standard for data lakehouses and modern architectures. This offering will be open sourced in the next 90 days, providing enterprises and the Iceberg community with increased choice, flexibility, and interoperability.

Snowflake is also gearing up for its largest user conference to date, the Snowflake Data Cloud Summit 2024. Taking place in San Francisco from June 3-6, this event will showcase why countless companies, including some of the world’s largest, trust Snowflake as their secure data foundation. The summit will unveil groundbreaking innovations in generative AI, application development, and open table formatting, signaling a new era of AI and data-driven solutions.
