This collaboration, firmly established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), sets the stage for ACEA to potentially revolutionize the pain management landscape across several pivotal markets.
Under the terms of the newly agreed MOU, ACEA Therapeutics could receive exclusive rights to develop and commercialize ZTlido® in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. ZTlido® is a next-generation lidocaine patch designed to offer highly effective relief of acute and chronic pain without the drawbacks associated with opioid treatment. The agreement also includes a right of first negotiation for a cutting-edge 3X version of the product currently under development, known as SP-103.
Dennis Carpenter, CEO of Scilex, heralded the collaboration as a pivotal move for the company’s international growth strategy. Our partnership with ACEA Therapeutics not only accelerates our mission to provide non-opioid pain solutions to a broader patient population but also leverages ACEA’s extensive expertise and local market insights, Carpenter remarked. We are excited about the potential to make a significant impact in pain management in the Greater China region.
Zeng Feng, CEO of ACEA Therapeutics, echoed Carpenter’s sentiment, emphasizing the high demand for innovative non-opioid treatments in the region. The escalating need for effective and safer pain management options in Greater China makes this collaboration both timely and necessary, Feng stated. Our established R&D capabilities and robust market connections will be instrumental in bringing ZTlido® and potentially SP-103 to patients in need.
The MOU sets the groundwork for further collaborative opportunities between the two companies, including the potential expansion of Scilex’s broader portfolio of non-opioid pain management products throughout the Greater China region.
This strategic collaboration comes at a crucial moment for Scilex as the company seeks to capitalize on the growing demand for non-opioid pain treatments amid the global opioid crisis. If successful, the collaboration could bring transformative pain relief options to millions of patients while helping to curb the widespread dependence on opioid medications.
As the healthcare landscape continues to shift towards safer, more effective pain management solutions, the partnership between Scilex and ACEA underscores the importance of international collaboration in addressing global health challenges.
