Safe Bulkers, Inc. a leading provider of marine drybulk transportation services, has recently announced the implementation of a new computerized Integrated Management System (IMS) in line with DryBMS Standards. This move showcases the company’s commitment to ensuring the highest level of standards in crew welfare, safety, and environmental sustainability.
From June 1st, Safe Bulkers, Inc. will be voluntarily replacing its existing Safety Management System (SMS) with the new IMS. The system is designed keeping in mind the Rightship RISQ3 framework, which prioritizes Crew Welfare and the SSI (Shipping Safety Initiative) Code of Conduct. By adhering to these standards, the company aims to further enhance the competence and commitment of its staff and fleet.
The decision to implement the new IMS follows Safe Bulkers’ previous announcement regarding the sale of two dry-bulk vessels. In March 2024, the company entered into separate agreements for the sale of MV Panayiota K, a 2010-built Post-Panamax class vessel, and MV Paraskevi 2, a 2011-built Panamax class vessel. The gross sale prices were set at $20.45 million and $20.3 million, respectively, with delivery dates in April and July 2024.
In addition, Safe Bulkers, Inc. recently disclosed the sale of MV Pedhoulas Cherry, a 2015 Chinese-built Kamsarmax class vessel. The agreement was made at a gross sale price of $26.6 million, and the vessel is expected to be delivered between January and February 2024.
These developments signal Safe Bulkers, Inc.’s strategic efforts to optimize its fleet and strengthen its position in the marine drybulk transportation industry. By divesting older vessels and implementing an advanced IMS, the company demonstrates its commitment to sustainable growth and the highest industry standards.
The new IMS will provide comprehensive management tools and streamlined processes for Safe Bulkers, Inc. It will enhance safety protocols, improve data management, and support decision-making processes across the organization. By focusing on crew welfare, the company aims to create a conducive working environment for its staff, ensuring their physical and mental well-being throughout their maritime career.
Furthermore, the IMS’s alignment with Rightship RISQ3 and the SSI Code of Conduct highlights Safe Bulkers, Inc.’s commitment to operating responsibly and in compliance with industry guidelines. By actively participating in initiatives that prioritize safety, environmental protection, and ethical practices, the company aims to contribute to a sustainable future for the marine industry.
In conclusion, Safe Bulkers, Inc.’s voluntary implementation of an Integrated Management System is a significant step towards further enhancing safety and operational excellence within the company. Edifying crew welfare, integrating industry standards, and strategically divesting vessels, the company continues to position itself as a leader in the marine drybulk transportation sector.
