Novocure’s METIS Phase-3 Clinical Trial for Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) has achieved its primary endpoint, signifying a statistical improvement in the time until intracranial progression in adult patients with 1-10 brain metastases from NSCLC, the company announced today. The patients in the study received Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) and supportive care, compared to those who received supportive care alone.
TTFields technology, developed by the global healthcare company Novocure, uses electric fields tuned to specific frequencies to disrupt cell division, inhibiting tumor growth and potentially causing cancerous cells to die. Novocure is headquartered in Root, Switzerland, and is listed on the NASDAQ exchange (NVCR).
In more good news for the company, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) accepted Novocure’s premarket approval (PMA) application. The approval is for the use of TTFields therapy in conjunction with standard systemic therapies for the treatment of NSCLC, following progression on or after platinum-based therapy.
Novocure also announced that research on TTFields therapy, including new data from the phase 2 2-THE-TOP trial and real-world evidence from patients diagnosed with glioblastoma (GBM) and other central nervous system tumors (CNS), will be presented at the 2023 Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO) Annual Meeting. The conference, taking place from Nov. 16 to Nov. 19, 2023, in Vancouver, Canada, is anticipated to provide greater insight into the efficacy and potential of TTFields therapy.
Overall, these recent developments shed positive light on the potential of Novocure’s TTFields therapy in offering innovative treatments for patients dealing with NSCLC and other forms of tumors affecting the central nervous system.
