NFE Announces First LNG Shipment and Cargo Arrival Soon, Expanding LNG Operations in Mexico and Brazil
New York-based energy company, New Fortress Energy Inc. (NFE), has recently made significant developments in its liquefied natural gas (LNG) operations. The company is set to receive its first LNG shipment in the coming days, marking a major milestone in its journey towards becoming a leading LNG producer and supplier. Furthermore, NFE plans to receive its first cargo in July, solidifying its position in the global LNG market.
The company’s first Fast LNG unit, located offshore Altamira, Mexico, has seen significant progress in its liquefaction operations. NFE has successfully completed the necessary work to initiate operations, paving the way for the start of LNG production. With this achievement, the company is now poised to be a significant player in the Mexican LNG industry.
In addition to the completion of the first Fast LNG unit, NFE has also received a favorable ruling from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The ruling states that the transportation of LNG produced at NFE’s FLNG facility in Altamira, Mexico, using non-U.S. qualified vessels, does not violate the Jones Act. This ruling opens up new opportunities for NFE, allowing the company to sell and deliver LNG produced at its FLNG facility to various U.S. locations, including Puerto Rico. This development further strengthens NFE’s position as a major LNG exporter to the United States.
Meanwhile, NFE is actively expanding its operations beyond Mexico. The company has recently signed a charter agreement with Petrobras to lease the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) Energos Winter. Starting from December 2023, NFE will deploy the FSRU to its new LNG import terminal in Santa Catarina, Brazil. This terminal, known as Terminal Gas Sul (TGS), is set to commence commercial operations earlier than expected, in January 2024. The agreement with Petrobras reinforces NFE’s commitment to expanding its presence in the growing Brazilian LNG market.
Commenting on these developments, NFE’s management expressed their satisfaction with the progress made and their excitement about the future prospects. The company’s CEO stated, We are extremely pleased to reach this agreement, which further enhances our ability to deliver clean, reliable, and affordable energy to our customers in Brazil. The early start of operations at our LNG import terminal in Santa Catarina will contribute to the country’s energy security and help meet the growing demand for natural gas.
The upcoming arrival of the first LNG shipment and the commencement of operations at the Altamira facility highlight NFE’s commitment to revolutionizing the LNG market. With its expansion plans in Mexico and Brazil, the company is poised to become a global leader in LNG production and distribution, catering to the increasing demand for clean energy sources.
