NEW YORK’ Lazard, Inc. (NYSE: LAZ) announced today that its preliminary assets under management (AUM) totaled approximately $244.3 billion as of August 31, 2024. This figure reflects a significant reduction in AUM, driven by net outflows of $7.5 billion during the month, against the backdrop of market and foreign exchange appreciation that contributed $2.8 billion and $3.0 billion, respectively.
The noteworthy drop in AUM was primarily influenced by gross outflows of approximately $7 billion attributed to a major client restructuring their developed market assets into passive investment strategies. This move underscores the shifting investment strategies currently being employed by various asset managers in response to evolving market conditions.

The productivity level exhibited by Lazard’s 2,610 employees also demonstrated improvement, although it still fell short compared to peers within the financial sector, where employees from 31 other companies reported higher revenue per employee figures.
In terms of overall standing, Lazard’s ranking has slipped compared to the first quarter of 2024, descending to 31st place among its peers in the financial industry a notable decline that may signal challenges ahead for the firm as it navigates market pressures and competition.
As the financial landscape continues to evolve, Lazard and its management will likely need to delve deeper into strategic adjustments to enhance their market position and restore investor confidence.
