Joby Aviation Expands Operations in Ohio, Gaining FAA Approval and Maintenance Certification
Joby Aviation, Inc. (NYSE:JOBY), a leading company in the development of electric air taxis for commercial passenger service, has recently made significant strides in expanding its operations. The company has acquired an existing facility at Dayton International Airport in Ohio and has already begun the hiring process to support its initial manufacturing operations there.
The newly acquired facility in Dayton will be equipped to handle the manufacturing operations for Joby’s electric air taxis. These operations are expected to commence later this year, marking a significant step forward for the company in bringing its innovative aircraft to market.
In addition to the acquisition of the manufacturing facility, Joby recently received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its certification plan for Joby’s propulsion system. This milestone is crucial in the journey towards obtaining type certification for Joby’s aircraft. Designed by Joby, the propulsion system plays a crucial role in delivering outstanding performance for their air taxis.
Furthermore, Joby has also achieved the prestigious Part 145 Repair Station Certificate from the FAA. This certificate allows Joby to conduct select maintenance activities on its aircraft, further progressing the company’s efforts to commercialize its electric air taxi service. Joby is believed to be the first developer of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to receive this certification.
The expansion of Joby Aviation’s operations in Ohio, coupled with FAA approval for the propulsion system and the Part 145 Repair Station Certificate, demonstrates the company’s significant progress towards its goal of commercializing electric air taxis for commercial passenger service. These achievements contribute to the continued growth of the electric aviation industry and highlight Joby’s position as a leader in the field.
