Joby Aviation Partners with Helo Holdings and Clay Lacy Aviation to Install Electric Air Taxi Chargers in New York and Southern California
Joby Aviation, a leading company in the development of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for commercial passenger service, has recently made significant progress towards the realization of electric air taxis. In a press release, the company announced its definitive agreements with Helo Holdings, Inc. (HHI) and Clay Lacy Aviation to install electric air taxi chargers in the greater New York City region and Southern California.
Starting with the partnership with HHI, Joby will be installing the first air taxi charger in the greater New York City area. The chosen location for this groundbreaking installation is the heliport in Kearny, New Jersey, conveniently located just a two-minute flight away from Manhattan. This partnership not only provides Joby with a strategic operational base but also strengthens its presence in the promising and dynamic New York market.
Furthermore, Joby has partnered with Clay Lacy Aviation to bring Southern California its first electric air taxi charger. This charger will be installed at John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, CA, as part of Clay Lacy’s planned expansion of electrical infrastructure to support Joby’s Global Electric Aviation Charging System (GEACS). With this collaboration, Joby aims to establish a strong foothold in the highly influential Southern California market.
The installations of these electric air taxi chargers represent a significant milestone in Joby’s vision to revolutionize urban air mobility. By strategically locating the chargers in two major metropolitan areas, the company is positioning itself as a leader in the emerging electric air taxi industry. With the chargers in place, Joby is one step closer to realizing its goal of offering convenient and sustainable air transportation options to commuters and travelers in the Greater New York City region and Southern California.
In addition to these partnerships, Joby also recently completed a series of air traffic simulations with NASA’s Ames Research Center. The simulations aimed to evaluate how air taxi operations can be seamlessly integrated into current airspace, even at busy airports, using existing air traffic control tools and procedures. The successful completion of these simulations is a testament to Joby’s commitment to safety and its ability to work with regulatory bodies to ensure smooth and efficient air travel.
With each of these remarkable achievements, Joby Aviation is solidifying its position as a pioneer in the electric air taxi industry. Through strategic partnerships, groundbreaking installations of electric air taxi chargers, and successful simulations with NASA, Joby is proving itself as a frontrunner in the race to transform urban transportation.
