Newport News, VA, May 2024- In a significant walk into the marine business, Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (NYSE: HII) Newport News Shipbuilding division has launched a unique initiative to reinforce the shipbuilding sector by welcoming more than three dozen high school graduates to a career in shipbuilding this year.
In May, the Newport News Shipbuilding division held a special signing day at The Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School and played an active part in the New Horizons Regional Education Centers (NHREC) Good Life Solution Programs Career Selection Day. The newly introduced initiative focuses on inducting fresh high school graduates into the domain and offering them potential career opportunities in shipbuilding.
Moreover, the HII Shipbuilding division at Ingalls, Pascagoula, Mississippi, also celebrated a similar occasion on May 1, hosting a signing day for the 2024 graduates from its Shipbuilder Academy. This year saw 25 gifted senior high school students being offered full-time positions at Ingalls, upon completion of their education, marking the beginning of their shipbuilding career.
Continuing the chain of achievements, HII announced late April that its Newport News Shipbuilding division has successfully delivered the Virginia-class fast-attack submarine, New Jersey (SSN 796), to the U.S. Navy. The Virginia-class submarines are the latest to join the U.S. Navy’s fleet of fast-attack submarines, signifying the industrious nature of HII’s shipbuilding sector.
Overall, the recent developments marked by successful delivery and the unique initiatives aimed at tapping the potential of young high school graduates underline HII’s commitment to enriching the shipbuilding industry.
