EDF Renewables North America and Enbridge Announce Completion of Ohio’s Largest Solar Complex, Fox Squirrel Phase 1

SAN DIEGO & CALGARY, Alberta - EDF Renewables North America and Enbridge Inc. have announced the successful completion of Phase 1 of the Fox Squirrel Solar project, Ohio’s largest solar complex. The facility is now fully operational and feeding renewable electricity into the PJM grid, marking a significant step towards decarbonization and the expansion of clean energy in the region.

Fox Squirrel Solar is a ground-mounted solar facility located in Madison County, Ohio, and is expected to have a total capacity of 749 MWdc/577 MWac once fully completed. To achieve this, the project is being constructed in three phases, with the initial phase alone generating 150 MWac of solar energy.

This ambitious project represents a major milestone in Ohio’s transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future. As one of the largest solar projects in the state, Fox Squirrel Solar will play a crucial role in helping Ohio meet its renewable energy targets and reduce its carbon footprint. The facility is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 70,000 households and offset over 338,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.

EDF Renewables North America, a leading renewable energy developer, is responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Fox Squirrel Solar project. The company’s expertise in developing large-scale renewable energy projects ensures that the facility is built with the highest standards of safety and efficiency.

Enbridge Inc. a prominent North American energy infrastructure company, has partnered with EDF Renewables in this venture. Enbridge will purchase 100% of the renewable energy credits (RECs) generated by Phase 1 of the Fox Squirrel Solar project under a 20-year power purchase agreement. This collaboration not only strengthens Enbridge’s commitment to sustainability but also contributes to Ohio’s efforts to diversify its energy mix and create a greener future.

The completion of Phase 1 signifies a major achievement not only for EDF Renewables and Enbridge but also for Ohio as a whole. The large-scale solar complex demonstrates the state’s potential for renewable energy development and its ability to attract substantial investments in the clean energy sector. Moreover, the project has a positive impact on the local economy, creating job opportunities during the construction phase and long-term employment in operations and maintenance.

The next phases of the Fox Squirrel Solar project are currently under construction, with expected completion dates in the coming years. Once fully operational, the solar complex will become a key contributor to Ohio’s clean energy goals and make significant strides towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
