Houston, TX’ Kiromic BioPharma, Inc. (OTCQB: KRBP) an emerging leader in the field of immuno-oncology recently announced encouraging results from the ongoing Deltacel-01 Phase 1 clinical trial. The trial is focused on evaluating the safety and efficacy of Deltacel (KB-GDT-01), an allogeneic, off-the-shelf Gamma Delta T-cell (GDT) therapy, in patients suffering from stage 4 metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have become refractory to standard treatments. The early data are inspiring hope among both researchers and patients.
The data reveal that, eight months following treatment, the first patient enrolled in the Deltacel-01 trial achieved a notable 20% reduction in tumor size. These results indicate that Deltacel may offer a significant new avenue for treating patients with advanced NSCLC, a population that is often confronted with limited and rapidly diminishing treatment options.
We are deeply encouraged by the early results seen in our first patient, said Mauro Ferrari, Ph.D. CEO of Kiromic BioPharma. A 20% reduction in tumor size in such a short period is promising, particularly for patients who have not responded to conventional therapies. This supports our belief that Deltacel could potentially offer a transformative new option for those fighting this aggressive form of cancer.
The Phase 1 trial is currently examining the maximum tolerated dose, overall safety, and preliminary efficacy of Deltacel. Deltacel is a novel immunotherapy utilizing gamma delta T-cells, a unique subtype of T-cells known for their natural ability to target and eliminate cancer cells. The off-the-shelf nature of Deltacel allows for immediate availability, a stark contrast to autologous therapies which require a time-consuming process of harvesting and engineering a patient’s own cells.
Gamma delta T-cells operate through a distinct mechanism from traditional alpha-beta T-cells, leading researchers to believe that they could play a crucial role in eliminating tumors that have become resistant to other forms of treatment.
The patient enrolled in our trial had exhausted all conventional therapies with no response, said Dr. Ferrari. The reduction in tumor size seen in this case was significant not only in its magnitude but also in its rapidity. We remain optimistic as we continue to evaluate Deltacel’s potential benefits across a broader patient base.
As the trial progresses, Kiromic BioPharma remains committed to closely monitoring patient responses and adjusting the study parameters as necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of participants. The company is also preparing to expand the trial to include additional patients and investigational sites to build a more comprehensive data set on Deltacel’s efficacy and safety profile.
A significant portion of the oncology community has already begun expressing keen interest in Kiromic’s approach, given the growing need for new, effective treatments for NSCLC. If Deltacel continues to show promising results, it has the potential to become a pioneering therapy in the fight against one of the most deadly forms of cancer.
We are grateful to the patient and their family for participating in our trial, concludes Dr. Ferrari. Their courage in contributing to this important research cannot be overstated. We believe that Deltacel is on a promising path and look forward to updating the community as our research progresses.
