Athens, Greece’ Diana Shipping Inc. (NYSE: DSX), a global leader in dry bulk shipping, has announced a significant time charter contract for its Capesize vessel, M/V P. S. Palios, with Glencore Freight Pte. Ltd. The agreement specifies a gross charter rate of US$25,200, less a 5% commission to third parties, spanning from December 14, 2025, until a minimum of November 15, 2026, and potentially extending to January 15, 2027.
This contract marks another strategic move by Diana Shipping Inc., reinforcing its commitment to optimizing its fleet’s utilization and enhancing its revenue stream. With Glencore an industry titan in commodities trading as a partner, Diana Shipping Inc. is poised to leverage this collaboration to ensure stable and lucrative operations in the coming years.
The announcement coincides with Diana Shipping Inc.’s remarkable improvements in inventory management metrics, as noted in their recent financial disclosures. In the fourth quarter of 2024, the company’s inventory turnover ratio has escalated to 3.25, setting a new record for the shipping firm. This uptick underscores the company’s enhanced capability in selling and replacing its inventory efficiently. Additionally, the average inventory processing period has shortened to 112 days as of December 31, 2024, down from 118 days in the prior term, signaling a positive trend in operational efficiency.
However, when juxtaposed with its industry peers within the transportation sector, Diana Shipping Inc. finds itself in a competitive landscape, with 24 other companies boasting higher inventory turnover ratios. On a broader scale beyond the transportation sector, Diana Shipping Inc.’s performance places it at the 1,147th position overall for the third quarter of 2024.
Despite these competitive pressures, Diana Shipping Inc.’s latest charter agreement with Glencore is a testament to its resilient operational strategy and market positioning. By continually refining its inventory strategies and securing landmark contracts, the company is steering towards sustained growth and enhanced shareholder value in the global maritime industry.
