Empowering the Future: VEON and Beeline Kazakhstan Champion AI and 4G Advancements’
Increased Focus on Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Network Enhancements in Central Asia’
Baku and Barcelona, 15 May 2024’: VEON Ltd. (NASDAQ: VEON, Euronext Amsterdam: VEON), a global digital operator renowned for providing converged connectivity and online services, has announced a groundbreaking initiative to foster the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and language technologies for languages with low digital resources. This initiative, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Beeline Kazakhstan, the GSMA, and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS), aims to explore collaborative avenues for advancing AI applications tailored to underrepresented languages.
“By joining forces with Beeline Kazakhstan, GSMA, and BSC-CNS, we intend to create robust AI and language technology frameworks that cater to the unique needs of communities with limited digital resources,” said a spokesperson for VEON. “This partnership represents a significant stride towards inclusive technological progress and reaffirms our commitment to leveraging AI for broader societal benefit.”
Not stopping at AI innovations, VEON has also revealed a landmark achievement in Bangladesh through its subsidiary, Banglalink. In a resolute move to uplift the country’s digital landscape, Banglalink has become the first telecom operator in Bangladesh to decommission its 3G services. This strategic decision, announced on 09 May 2024, is part of a larger endeavor to optimize 4G network performance by reallocating resources formerly dedicated to 3G. The transition underscores VEON’s relentless pursuit of enhancing connectivity and digital experience for its users.
Phasing out 3G services enables us to reallocate valuable network resources to bolster our 4G infrastructure, which is critical for supporting the increasing demand for high-speed mobile internet, highlighted a VEON representative. This move not only elevates Banglalink’s service capabilities but also aligns with our vision of driving digital transformation in emerging markets.
The focus on technological innovation was further evident at Beetech 2024, an annual conference hosted by Beeline Kazakhstan and QazCode. This year’s event attracted a massive audience of 1000 Kazakh and international delegates who convened to discuss pivotal trends and developments in artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and application development for the Central Asian region. The gathering served as a testament to the growing significance of these advanced technologies and their potential to revolutionize industries and boost economic growth in the area.
Through these strategic initiatives and collaborative efforts, VEON, alongside its partners, is not only championing advanced digital services but also pioneering the transformation of AI and big data applications in underrepresented regions. The integration of sophisticated AI in local languages, the shift from 3G to a more robust 4G network, and the collective expertise showcased at Beetech 2024 illustrate a comprehensive vision for a digitally empowered future.
As VEON continues to push the boundaries of digital innovation, its integrated approach to connectivity, service enhancement, and technological inclusivity sets a powerful precedent within the telecommunications industry and beyond.
